Pasadena ISD Evaluates School Closures Amid Enrollment Decline

Pasadena Independent School District (ISD) is currently evaluating the potential closure or consolidation of McMasters Elementary and Tegeler Community School. This consideration arises from a combination of declining student enrollment and escalating operational expenses, challenges that are increasingly common among Texas school districts.

In a recent town hall meeting, district officials engaged with parents and staff to discuss these potential changes. The district emphasized that any staffing adjustments would be managed through attrition, aiming to minimize direct impacts on current employees. The primary goal is to align resources more effectively with the current student population while maintaining the quality of educational programs.

Superintendent Dr. DeeAnn Powell acknowledged the difficulty of these decisions, stating, “These are extremely difficult considerations, and we recognize the impact they have on our students, staff, and community. However, declining enrollment requires us to examine how we use our facilities to operate efficiently while maintaining strong academic programs.”

Community members are encouraged to participate in ongoing discussions and stay informed about the district’s plans as they develop. The district remains committed to transparency and collaboration throughout this process.
